A bill authorising internet wagering at Atlantic City casinos will now go to a full vote of the New Jersey State Assembly.

Bill 2578, which was drafted to allow New Jersey citizens to place wagers on casino games via the internet, has been released by the New Jersey Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee and will now pass to the full Assembly.

New Jersey’s casinos have suffered more than most in the downturn and Governor Chris Christie has made it a priority to aid Atlantic City’s recovery. The introduction of i-gaming in the state has been challenged on the basis that it would take away revenues from the existing land-based gaming operations. However, this bill is intended to provide an additional revenue stream for the casinos by preventing bars and restaurants from offering such services.

It remains to be seen, though, if Governor Christie deems this a sufficient compromise to sign the bill into law should it be passed by the state lawmakers.
